The Miami Heat is a professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida, United States. The team is a member of the Southeast Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They play their home games at American Airlines Arena in Downtown Miami. The team is owned by Micky Arison, coached by Erik Spoelstra and managed by Pat Riley. The mascot of the team is Burnie, an anthropomorphic fireball.

Currently there are 30 NBA Teams, only 4 teams, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs have won more than 3 championships, totaling between them 67 percent of the titles. Boston Celtics have won the most NBA Championship adding to 17, followed by Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls with 16 and 6 Championships each.

In 1947 the first NBA finals were played, however the league was referred to as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) at the time. It was renamed the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1950. The first championship was won by the Philadelphia Warriors(now Golden State Warriors) when they defeated the Chicago Stags 4 games to 1.


Dallas Mavericks won their first title in 2010-11, defeating Miami Heat in the finals with Game Series 4-2, and became one of the seventeen franchises that have won at least one NBA Championship. Three of them Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers did it in different cities.
